1950s hiker anorak

Made in the 50's by the original Mountain Equipment in New Zealand Christchurch.

This store opened before the later Mountain Equipment that is around today, opening in the 60's.

See below for some info, making this jacket a similar one to what Sir Edmund Hillary wore when climbing Mt Everest for the first time, as their team were documented being supplied gear from the same shop for that trip.

Similar look to the rolex advert photo jacket they are wearing.

Bevan Napper, also known as Arthur Napper, established Mountain Equipmer in Christchurch's Victoria Street in the mid-1950s. He initially started by makin canvas packs, including the Mountain Mule, in 1950, inspired by his experience managing the Arthurs Pass Hostel. The Mountain Mule packs gained popularity and were even used on the 1953 Mount Everest expedition. The Victoria Street shop was a specialist climbing and tramping store, according to the New Zealand Deerstalkers Association.

a rare example from the 50's with the correct lightning zips in a good Xl size and still in good shape.
